Senator works to restore Salton Sea bill

From MyDesert.com:

Sen. Denise Ducheny is trying to restore some authority to a council that she’s proposed creating to oversee recovery of the dying Salton Sea. The Senate stripped any power from the council to actually carry out projects that could help slow and reverse the decline of the state’s largest lake.

Now that the bill is in the Assembly, Ducheny has proposed amending it to reflect the measure that she originally introduced this year. ‘‘We had to put it back because it was toxic” the way it came out of the Senate, the San Diego Democrat said of her bill. ‘‘It wouldn’t work.”

But Ducheny, who also represents Cathedral City, warned that it could take until next year to work through the issues with legislative colleagues and retool the bill so it will pass. ‘‘I have to settle up with (the) Senate Appropriations” committee, which forced the changes, Ducheny said, ‘‘or the Assembly won’t move it.”
