Imperial: Draft of proposed water fee increase discussed

City leaders are discussing a draft of a proposed water rate fee hike that could go before residents for approval by the end of the year, officials said Thursday.

The proposed fee increase would raise sewer connection rates by $15 and impose a set percentage rate increases for the first three years under a two-tier plan, said Laura Gutierrez, Imperial administrative services director.

By the fourth year, any rate increases would be subject to changes in the consumer price index, she said. The water rate charge would decrease to $12 but any increases under the plan would affect a resident’s water usage, Gutierrez said.
