Metropolitan Water District pushes water conservation at La Verne meeting

“Preserving water is preserving life, officials said Wednesday at a Metropolitan Water District presentation at a La Verne Chamber of Commerce event.

“We want to make sure we have enough money to save life,” said La Verne administrative superintendent Jeanette Vagnozzi before a packed audience at the Sierra La Verne Country Club. “If that means landscaping that’s a little less than perfect, we’re OK with that right now,” Vagnozzi said. “We’re not asking you to make your lawns go completely brown or your landscaping to die off so it’s going to cost you a lot of money to replace it.”

Vagnozzi’s comments were a relief to Mark Levy, the owner/operator of Palace Pet Salon in La Verne, who said he was worried the city would turn its lawns brown.

“That’s important,” Levy said, adding the meeting was informative. But he has been watching his water use, he said. “I’ve already been conserving a lot of water,” Levy said. …”
