From the North County Times, this reader commentary:

“There are three sides to every issue —- pros, cons and the truth. Opponents and proponents have made bold statements about the proposed desalination plant in Carlsbad.

The Surfrider Foundation is concerned about killing millions of fish and invertebrate larva daily. How many trillions of fish and invertebrates will die during the next red tide bloom?

The Sierra Club stated that 5 million Garibaldi fish will die a year. Do they know that Garibaldi fish (they look like gold fish) are territorial and they only nest on rock outcroppings? As a protected fish, the Garibaldi has flourished at our Oceanside Harbor as well as the lagoon next to the power plant because of the boulders used to shore up the sand. It would be interesting to know where all these millions of fish would nest? …”
