AccuWeather California forecast: Unseasonable powerhouse storm to deliver flooding rain and damaging wind

“I am looking at a storm developing in the eastern Pacific today that made me look at the calendar to confirm its still October. It comes as no surprise for anyone who reads my column that a huge storm is coming to a large part of California, especially the northern two-thirds. It is going to live up to the early hype I gave it.
The coming storm has plenty of moisture with it, some coming from ex-typhoon Melor that hit Japan last Wednesday. It has a tremendous amount of energy as well with a strong jet stream involved. Wrap these two things together, plus add in the orographics the west facing mountains will add, and we have on our hands one big rain and wind producer along with all the problems that brings to the table. Here is a satellite picture showing the amount of precipitable water in the air over the eastern Pacific. Notice the large 1.50+ inches area and even the one speck of red indications 2+ inches. …”
