Imperial Irrigation District inaugurates artificial marsh

“NILAND — The desert floor has turned into a shimmering reflection of the mountains in Niland thanks to the waters of the Imperial Irrigation District’s managed marsh complex.
The 365 acres of artificial marsh will offer refuge to Valley wildlife, since IID canal cleaning clears vegetation.

“The idea is that the creatures we affect would move into a place like here,” said John Eckhardt, IID executive program manager.

The IID held a luncheon and tour event at the site Wednesday to display the nascent marsh and thank those who helped develop it. …”
