Huntington Beach to consider stricter water conservation measures

“HUNTINGTON BEACH– The city could impose a stricter water conservation plan that would require residents to follow mandatory rules to reduce water usage.

City Council members at their meeting on Monday will consider approving a more stringent water plan after the Metropolitan Water District set forth a program that requires cities to adopt permanent water use restrictions to combat the drought in California.

The city currently has a plan in place that directs residents to make a concerted effort to save water but it is mostly based on voluntary conservation measures, city officials reported.

The proposed restrictions would limit residents to watering their yards one day a week from November through March and three days a week from April through October based a schedule established by the city. The city will post a schedule for residents to follow, if approved. … “
