DeMaio’s, Sanders’ water spat is a wash

“It’s not every day that a San Diego politician wants to show me his toilet.

But there I was, looking down at Councilman Carl DeMaio’s. It’s new, he explained. It saves water. “Very nice,” I said, trying to be polite. He even flushed it, to show how little water it uses. It was about then that I wondered what I had gotten into when I called DeMaio, asking him about seeing his house.

I heard he was doing a lot of water conservation. So is Mayor Jerry Sanders for that matter. They’re both proud of their efforts, which include Sanders not shaving in the shower and DeMaio yanking out his backyard lawn.

DeMaio gushed about his efforts to at least one reporter. And Sanders’ people went as far to offer me a tour of his house, to show what he’s done. … “
