New water system to help Fresno’s Herndon Town

“Work has begun on bringing a modern water system to a long-neglected neighborhood in northwest Fresno.

It’s about time, said Pedro Trujillo, who has lived in Herndon Town for 46 years. “Finally, we’re getting into the 21st century,” said Trujillo, 70.

Employees of Fresno-based Kelly C. Broyles Construction Inc. are in the early stages of installing water mains and pipes along the public streets of this small community of about 80 residences. They began work last week and could be done by late December even though the deadline isn’t until March, said company Vice President Shawn Broyles.

The project is funded through an $825,000 grant acquired by the city of Fresno’s Public Utilities Department from the California Department of Public Health. … “
