Have Orange County water officials cut back at home?

“The message has been as clear as tap water: Every dripping faucet, every soaking sprinkler, every extra minute in the shower is just another draw on a water system that can no longer afford it.

Water suppliers have been warning for more than a year that we all need to cut our consumption by a good 10 percent or more. So last year, The Orange County Register checked the household water use of local political leaders – and found that half hadn’t cut their use at all.

That’s changed. Records for more than 120 city council members and water-district directors show that three-quarters of them cut their use this year, in some cases dramatically. Nearly 60 percent of them meet or beat the gold standard of water conservation, a 10-percent reduction. … “
