Bond could increase Kings County water supply

“Voter approval of the state water bond could fund some long sought-after Kings County water storage projects, local officials familiar with the legislation said this week.

The $11.1 billion measure passed in October goes before the state’s voters in November 2010. If approved, it would specifically set aside $70 million for projects in the Tulare Lake Hydrologic region, which includes all of Kings and Tulare counties and parts of Kern, Fresno and San Benito counties.

The region could also apply for project funding under a number of other categories totaling $6.2 billion in available money.

That has Kings County water officials tallying up a wish list of potential projects that would enhance the county’s ability to withstand the onset of drought. … “
