Times-Delta’s 150th anniversary retrospective: Visalia hit by another flood

One hundred and fifty years of newspapers contain stories large and small about the achievements, failures and foibles of the people of a region. This weekly series, part of the Times-Delta’s observance of its 150th anniversary, will show slices of Visalia and Tulare County life through the years that the newspaper has been serving the region.

Part XXIII: Less than a month after Visalia was hit by its worst flood, the water came again.

Local Merchants Urged to Begin Sandbagging; River Hits 25,000 CFS

Floodwaters probably will hit Visalia sometime tonight, according to a warning issued early this afternoon by J.H. Holley, Kaweah River watermaster.

Visalia merchants and residents were warned to start sandbagging in anticipation of the floodwaters. Holley and civil defense headquarters both stressed that preparations should be made although they could not predict when the water would hit town or how bad the flood would be. … “
