Still recovering from 62-inch water-main failure

“Three months after a ruptured water main flooded about a dozen shops and cafes in Studio City, one business is set to reopen Sunday – the first that has completed repairs in time to take advantage of the holiday shopping season.

Il Tramezzino will open at 8 a.m., its floors, walls and furniture replaced as part of a $250,000 repair job after the Sept. 5. water main break.

But much more work lies ahead for the family-owned Italian cafe – and neighboring business and homeowners – all of whom are wrangling with private insurance companies and the City Attorney’s Office, which is overseeing claims for flood victims seeking reimbursement from the Department of Water and Power.

“Is the worst over? Yes. But I’m still in the thick of my nightmares with the insurance,” said Veronique DeLestang, who owns Il Tramezzino with husband Rick Walken. “I haven’t even gone after DWP yet.” … “
