Metropolitan Water District’s hidden tunnel is massive

“Drivers on Highway 60 in the eastern reaches of Moreno Valley likely never would suspect they are cruising over a massive and active public waterworks project.
A giant Metropolitan Water District concrete-lined tunnel, which is 12 feet tall, pierces the Badlands between Moreno Valley and the Mentone area near Redlands, 7.9 miles away.
It runs beneath the freeway and continues toward the San Jacinto Valley, carrying Northern California water to Diamond Valley Lake by Hemet.
It is part of the 44-mile Inland Feeder pipeline. Because of leakage in initially built tunnels connecting the Cajon Pass and the Highland area near San Bernardino, the $1.2 billion Inland Feeder system was behind schedule. … “
