Mendocino County rainfall 1 to 2 major storms behind schedule

“If there is no significant rain by January 2010, water levels will likely be in the range of 30,000 acre feet at Lake Mendocino, which would trigger 50 percent water conservation according to the current version of a county drought ordinance.

The ordinance was adjusted recently to include a caveat that there would be water conservation when water levels dropped that low. County supervisors met Tuesday as the Mendocino County Water Agency and listened to an update from agency manager Roland Sanford.

“We are about one to two major storms behind schedule,” Sanford said. “Let us see what happens in December, which is one of the wetter months,” he said.

If Lake Mendocino is low again, Sanford said it would be time to get talks started early. In 2009, a temporary reduction in Russian River flows from Lake Mendocino was granted by the state. … “
