Sunday’s top of the scroll: Imperial Valley holds breath for final QSA ruling

“After the Superior Court of California tentatively ruled the largest agricultural-to-urban water transfer invalid, county and Imperial Irrigation District officials await a final ruling.
Imperial County considers the tentative ruling a “victory,” while IID officials question the Valley’s future.

“Depending on whether or not the water transfer continues, there could be serious economic consequences for not only Imperial County but for all of Southern California,” said IID Assistant to the General Manager Kevin Kelley.

Meanwhile, Imperial County lauds the tentative ruling as a positive step forward for the Valley’s well-being. The county released an official statement Thursday.

“We praise the court for sustaining our claims and those of the other challengers that the QSA and transfer failed to protect the public health and economy of the Imperial Valley,” Imperial County Board of Supervisors Chairman Wally Leimgruber stated. … “
