Water worries keep city of American Canyon searching for adequate supply

“The city of American Canyon continues to look for new sources of water as drought conditions drag on.

Napa County’s second-biggest city receives most of its water from the North Bay Aqueduct, the state-owned pipeline that runs from Barker Slough in Solano County to the city’s treatment plant in Jamieson Canyon.

These are not good times to be relying on state water. On Dec. 1, officials with the California Department of Water Resources issued the lowest preliminary water allocations in history — 5 percent of the full amount set out in contracts with municipalities and local water districts.

While that number is expected to increase over the winter months as the state gets a better sense of the Sierra snowpack this year, city officials worry the water agency is unlikely to deliver more than 40 percent of what is allotted. … “
