JPL’s Patzert predicts winter won’t be all that wet this year

” … don’t expect an unusually wet winter, says Bill Patzert, the climatologist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory who studies rain patterns in California. He often speaks on behalf of JPL.
“At John Wayne y’all have had 2.53” of rain to date, about normal (91 percent of normal for this date),” Patzert said by email. “Last year you had 4.58” by this time. Jan. was dry, Feb. was wet and and then not much (rain fell) after that, so you ended up below normal. My money is on a repeat performance.
“The NWS and your blogger fans are going for a wet winter. Me, a few months ago, I called for below normal again. I’ll stick with that. The Nino is weak to moderate and the PDO (Pacific Decadal Oscillation) is negative. I’m due for a bust, but will stick with my formula. … “
