Christmas Day top of the scroll: Association of California Water Agencies Alliance slammed for water deal by some members

“A coalition that is supposed to advocate for water districts across California has come under fire for its support of last month’s water deal in the state Legislature.

Some Northern California water providers are threatening to withhold dues or withdraw entirely from the Association of California Water Agencies.

“Why should our community be putting money into an organization that’s not supporting our interests?” Stockton attorney Dante Nomellini said during a recent meeting of the county’s Advisory Water Commission.

Two local ACWA members – the Stockton East Water District and San Joaquin County Department of Public Works – signed onto a letter protesting the association’s position on the legislation, which establishes a new council to govern the Delta, monitors groundwater use, enforces water rights and sets water conservation goals while also proposing an $11.1 billion water bond. … “
