Pico Rivera, water district clash

“PICO RIVERA – Pico Water District is grappling with the city over a joint plan between the city and Central Basin Municipal Water District to build a recycled water pipe along Mines Avenue.

The pipe would bring reclaimed water to irrigate landscapes at sites like Smith Park and the Pico Rivera public library – which are Pico Water customers, officials said.

Pico Water accused the city of potentially trying to poach customers. The water retailer also said they were left out of the loop on the project.

“”They have these plans we’re finding out about in the newspaper, and their plans serve our customers,” said Mark Grajeda, Pico Water general manager. “If either Central Basin or the city were trying to take our customers away, we would fight to keep them.” … “
