Water board eyes bond: Foothill district seeks a boost from the ballot to improve its infrastructure

“LA CAÑADA — Directors from the Foothill Municipal Water District on Monday pushed for a proposed $20-million bond to help fund the agency’s $63 million in upgrades to its aging infrastructure and reduce dependence on imported water.
Directors from the Crescenta Valley Water District and the La Cañada Irrigation District were among the more than 20 representatives from Foothill Municipal’s member agencies at Tuesday’s public meeting, which was called in an effort to form a united front around the proposed bond and accompanying property assessment.
“We’d like to make sure everyone understands the need for what we are proposing,” said Robert Gomperz, president of the Foothill Municipal Water District Board of Directors.
The meeting was part of an extended outreach campaign directed by Foothill Municipal after initial community outreach on the proposed property assessment met a tepid public response. District officials had originally planned to float the proposed bond to voters last fall, but after two poorly attended community forums, the board voted unanimously in October to postpone going to the ballot. … “
