Half of Orange County’s water supply to be turned off

“YORBA LINDA – The weeklong storm that battered Orange County is expected to assist with water conservation efforts next week, when officials will shut off the taps at a plant that treats nearly half the county’s water supply.

Water flowing out from the Robert B. Diemer Treatment Plant in Yorba Linda is being cut off from Jan. 25 to 31 in order for workers to move forward with a $300 million project transforming the water filtration system from chlorine to ozone.

The plant is expected to close two more times before the transition is completed in 2012.

Water districts across the county are asking customers use water carefully, but the shutdown will primarily impact water customers in South County cities that must import most or all of their water. … “
