San Jacinto Valley floodwaters tempered

“Flood-control engineers seem to be making headway in the daunting task of taming the wild waters of the San Jacinto Valley during storms.

Government officials contend with flooding that a crude drainage system of gutters and dips in roads can’t handle. The construction of underground storm drains in recent years clearly helped.

During the recent week of torrential downpours, when nearly a half-foot of rain fell in the San Jacinto Valley, flooding in streets and water levels in catch basins were less than in past years.

In San Jacinto, parks that double as catch basins seemed to do a good job of retaining water to reduce street flooding. … “
