County may aid thirsty communities; Board to write a letter to Central Coast Water Authority

“Water-strapped communities facing sea water intrusion in south San Luis Obispo County may be one step closer to getting emergency water from the county.

On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors agreed to write a letter to the Central Coast Water Authority that acknowledges the county intends to consider possible long-term amendments to its state water contractual agreements.

The county Flood Control and Water Conservation District contracts with the state Department of Water Resources for an allocation of 25,000 acre-feet of state water a year.

However, the district has a more than 15,000 acre-foot excess allocation that the Northern Cities Management Area (NCMA) Technical Group — Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, Pismo Beach and Oceano — would like to share. … “
