L.A. flood district charged with polluting Marina del Rey

“The Los Angeles Flood Control District may be hit with a $275,000 fine, because of large amounts of urban runoff entering Marina del Rey. State regulators accuse the district of allowing runoff to pollute the harbor for more than two years.

The Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board filed the complaint Feb. 18, stating that the flood control district violated its Clean Water Act stormwater permit by discharging waste from the Los Angeles County Municipal Separate Sewer System 186 times between 2007 and 2009. The violations allegedly contributed to high bacterial levels that exceeded acceptable standards at Basin E in the marina.

The district, which manages flood protection and water conservation in Los Angeles County and 84 incorporated cities, contributed to stormwater and urban runoff discharges into the harbor, as well as other receiving waters in the Los Angeles region, according to the Regional Water Quality Control Board. … “

    That’s interesting, I didn’t know that they could fine them for these kinds of things. Well that’s good to know..
