Mendoza claims 60 Minutes segment mischaracterizes IID All America Canal safety concerns

“IID Director Stella Mendoza says “60 Minutes” mischaracterized what she said about safety concerns for the All-American Canal.
The CBS program, which ran a 20-minute segment regarding safety in the 83-mile-long waterway Sunday, didn’t include information that she had talked about or that included safety measures the IID has taken, she said.
The fence that runs along the border has diverted people illegally crossing the border from cities to the deserts and All-American Canal, the show reported. More than 550 people have died trying to swim across the canal to get into the country.
Mendoza acted as representative for the IID after an interview with correspondent Scott Pelley about safety measures in the canal.
“I spoke with the correspondent for perhaps an hour, and I made it clear in that time that the IID Board of Directors unanimously supports incorporating enhanced safety measures into the canal-lining project,” Mendoza said in a press release. “That this simple fact was omitted from the 22-minute piece that was aired to the public is inaccurate and unfair.” … “
