Rialto: Clean water deal moves forward

“A water treatment partnership has been revived after city officials met Thursday with representatives of the West Valley Water District to work out their differences. The city and water district are hammering out the final details of an agreement in which the water district would use its system to clean up perchlorate at Rialto Well No. 6.

“It’s a good project for Rialto,” Councilman Ed Scott said.

Scott and Anthony “Butch” Araiza, general manager for the water district, agreed to several concessions at the meeting held in the Riverside offices of the State Water Resources Control Board’s Santa Ana Region.

Araiza and Scott agreed that the water district would run the cleanup, while the city maintains control of the property near Etiwanda and Willow avenues.

“You don’t have a third party march in and tell you how you’re going to run the system,” Araiza said. … “
