Water board hammers Greens for fouling Tomki, Scott Creek waters

“The North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board has issued its fourth abatement order in a 10-year history of regulatory oversight of Jon and Deann Green’s land improvements on 520 acres along Tomki Road east of Willits.

According to the water board, the Greens have cut too many trees, graded too many areas, and cut roads that are too steep in an effort to improve their property. As a result, the board claims, much of one of hillsides on the property has ended up in Scott and Tomki creeks.

From 2001 to 2009, water board staff visited the site 11 times, sometimes accompanied by officials from the National Marine Fisheries Service, the California Department of Fish and Game, the California Geologic Survey, and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. … “
