State Water Contractor’s statement on Sacramento regional tentative waste requirements

Posted by: Maven on September 4, 2010 at 8:42 am

Laura King Moon, spokesperson for the State Water Contractors, issued this statement regarding the wastewater discharge requirements for Sacramento (received via email):

“As we try to move toward a healthy Delta ecosystem, it’s critical that we address all the stressors on the estuary. Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District has been discharging significant amounts of ammonia into the Delta and that has altered the food web and furthered the Delta decline. As public water agencies, we’ve been working to find a balanced solution to this crisis, and we believe that this is an element that needs to be addressed. Sanitation districts throughout California have taken the necessary steps to upgrade their systems, Sacramento should do the same. We’re pleased to see that the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board has found – based on solid research and science – that the amount of ammonia flowing into the Delta must be significantly reduced.”
