Friends of the Eel River: Pauli’s statistics are a spin on the real situation

“I was happy to see Virginia Graziani’s coverage of the PG&E Potter Valley Project (PVP) in the Aug. 17, 2010 issue. As many readers know, these dams and the associated hydro project have been the focus of much of our work at Friends of the Eel River for at least 16 years now. When someone other than me presents a view or opinion on the PVP, it gives readers a different perspective and adds to the possibility that an informed populace will be part of a much-needed solution that requires broad citizen participation.
Many people I have talked to considered the Aug. 17 article to be solely a reflection of Virginia’s personal views, when in fact the article parroted what is frequently said by Farm Bureau proponent Janet Pauli, who often speaks for those who think that since the diversion of Eel River water to the Russian River has gone on for more than 100 years, the water now belongs to those on the receiving end of this disastrous loss of natural Eel River flows. … “
