Thank you to Cara for sending me this:

The California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Association (CA-NV AWWA), the Section’s leading membership organization, has partnered with other industry leaders to offer the first and only comprehensive and industry-leading Water Conservation Education and Certification Programs in the country.

“We have created a tool that is helping utilities measure their conservation efforts,” says Debra Kaye, AWWA National Director representing the CA-NV Section. “Our goal is to ensure that when they’re hiring conservation professionals, they are comfortable in knowing they’re hiring experienced workers who will only help the utility be successful, and help them respond to new government directives in water conservation.”

The Water Conservation Practitioner Certification is a professional certification program that provides testing on three grade levels, each specifically designed to complement a professional’s experience and skill set. With stringent guidelines, test-takers are given just three hours to complete a comprehensive 100-question exam.

The CA-NV AWWA also offers a two-day review class to enhance test-takers’ existing knowledge. Level One Curriculum includes topics such as: Water Supply and Demand, Water Utility Aspects and Residential and Commercial Landscape. All workshops are taught by highly-qualified instructors with experience in the water industry. Each workshop is intended to assist in the preparation for the Water Conservation Practitioner Certification Examination.

“The California-Nevada AWWA is very proud of the fact that we offer the country’s only comprehensive and definitive certification program for public utility workers,” says Elizabeth Kang, Executive Director for the CA-NV AWWA. “Our students earn career and personal milestones that will serve them well into the future. For those looking to re-enter this field, our certification workshops and classes are a terrific way to continue their training on the cutting edge.”

CA-NV AWWA also manages six professional certification programs serving more than 20,000 individuals, helping to ensure drinking water safety for more than 35 million people. The Section publishes a quarterly journal, Source, and helps disseminate technical input on drinking water issues to state regulators and legislators.

The Water Conservation Practitioner Certification has not yet been mandated by law, and there are currently no state or national requirements for this type of certification. Governor Schwarzenegger has stated that California must show a 20% reduction in water demands through conservation by the year 2020.

The program is administered and validated by the CA-NV AWWA, and examinations will continue throughout the year. To register for Water Conservation workshops and examinations, go to www.ca-nv-awwa.org or call the CA-NV AWWA at (909) 481-7200.
