Strong, cold weekend storm headed our way

Posted by: Maven on March 19, 2009 at 6:45 am

From the Accu-Weather Western Weather Blog, news that a storm is headed our way this weekend. Here’s how meteorologist Ken Clark sees it:

… a period of stormy weather spreads south through California Saturday and Saturday night reaching southern California late Saturday night or Sunday morning. Rain is likely ahead of the front with showers and thunderstorms behind the frontal passage. Snow levels are likely to plummet. By Sunday morning they should range from 1,500 feet or less in the northern Sierra to 3,500 feet southern Sierra and be around 5,500 feet in the mountains around Los Angeles. However, snow levels fall more during the day from the central Sierra on south reaching 2,000 feet in the central and southern Sierra to around 3,500 feet in the Los Angeles area. Of course these are my early estimates and will be refined over the next couple of days.
