Public hearing on rate hikes on tap for the Antelope Valley

From the Antelope Valley Press:

The notice came in the mail, informing Palmdale Water District customers of a public hearing set for May 13 to consider proposed water budget rates. These proposed rates, if implemented, will change the model the district uses to bill its customers.

And that new rate structure means an increase in monthly bills, which could result in at least a 19% hike for some ratepayers, according to PWD General Manager Randy Hill. “On average, customers can expect to pay about $15 a month more,” Hill told an Antelope Valley Press reporter in mid-March.

But a review of the new rate structure developed by Raftelis Financial Consultants Inc., the firm the water district contracted, indicated that many customers’ bills would go up significantly more than Hill estimated.

Rates vary depending on the size of pipe connected to the customer’s meter.
