Upcoming drought management conferences will focus on conservation measures to combat both short-term and long-term water scarcity

From the Water Education Foundation:

When one considers precipitation only, California’s water supply conditions don’t look that bad –the Department of Water Resources’ (DWR) April 1 snow survey indicates statewide snowpack water content is 81 percent of “normal” for the year. But even with near normal snow conditions for this year, reservoir storage remains low after two previous dry years and DWR Director Lester Snow says “we face severe water supply problems in many parts of our state. Californians must continue to save water at home and in their businesses.”

With California in a third year of drought, Snow said in a March 30 letter to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger that DWR and other state agencies continue to implement programs and take actions as directed by the governor’s Feb. 27 “state of emergency” drought proclamation.

You can learn more about the state’s hydrologic conditions, the governor’s emergency drought proclamation and conservation measures being implemented at the state and local levels to combat both short-term and long-term water supply scarcity by attending one of the two workshops being sponsored by the Water Education Foundation and the Association of California Water Agencies.

The workshops are April 16 in Burlingame (near San Francisco International Airport) and April 23 in Irvine. Some scholarships are still available.
