Residents beg Palmdale water District for discounts

Posted by: Maven on April 11, 2009 at 6:22 am

From the Antelope Valley Press:

Expressing concern with a proposed Palmdale Water District rate increase that could double and maybe triple some monthly bills, Ana Verde Rural Homeowners Association members urged water officials to give discounts to elderly people living on pensions and other low-income customers.

“We have senior citizens that really cannot afford this rate hike,” said Linda Chesnutt, a resident of the Ana Verde Homeowners tract, north of Avenue S and west of Tierra Subida. “You really need to consider those people. They cannot get up and move from your water district.”

“Is that what it’s all about, making it unaffordable to live here?” Chesnutt asked Wednesday during a water district board meeting.

Water district board members discussed potential rate subsidies for low- and fixed-income customers, but they did not decide on a policy.
