From the Imperial Valley Press:

The Imperial Irrigation District outlined some of the ways it could ensure a reliable water supply for municipal, commercial and industrial water users in the coming years at its board meeting Tuesday. Matt Zidar, a consultant with GEI Consultants, said that the main issue facing the IID is deciding what to do with the water it has. “Your problem isn’t one of shortage,” Zidar told the Board of Directors at Tuesday’s meeting. “It’s one of appropriation.”

The goal, Zidar said, was to create a reliable supply for incoming users without affecting the current agricultural water supply. The IID would need to look into projects such as groundwater banking and desalinization in order to generate new water for new businesses. Other strategies could include recycling municipal water and urban and agricultural water conservation programs.

IID board president Jim Hanks said that a water management plan was necessary for going forward. “It would be a benefit to all water users,” Hanks said.
