Water’s enough, but system’s the problem: California City won’t go thirsty, but rates will have to be raised

From the Antelope Valley Press:

It’s a good news-bad news situation when it comes to water in Cal City. First, the good news: the city’s own water supply, in the aquifer beneath it, is enough for the foreseeable future without the need to tap into outside sources. The bad news: financially, the city’s water system has fallen far behind and significant rate increases will be necessary to keep it running.

Public Works Director Michael Bevins presented a water workshop Wednesday night for the City Council and the public to bring people “up to speed on all the city’s water problems and situations,” he said. “This is a get-the-information-out situation.”

As part of an effort to update its water management plans, the city commissioned its own groundwater study by Stetson Engineers. The study is the third since 1971. “Essentially, all the (studies) have had consistent information,” Bevins said. “Everyone who has looked at this has come to the same basic conclusions about the area.”
