Rancho California Water District to consider mandatory conservation restrictions

Facing a cut from its biggest supplier, the Rancho California Water District in Temecula is proposing mandatory restrictions on when homeowners and businesses can water their landscapes.
The district’s board of directors will consider Thursday whether to impose the “Stage 3″ restrictions, which carry harsh financial penalties for repeat offenders. The district serves Temecula, part of Murrieta and nearby unincorporated areas.
Many Inland water districts have imposed mandatory conservation measures in response to an upcoming 10 percent supply cut by wholesaler Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The cut to retail agencies will start in July; districts that exceed their allotments will pay penalties up to five times the base price of water.
Under stage 3 restrictions, residential landscapes could be watered only between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Homes with addresses ending in odd digits could water on odd-numbered days, while even addresses could water on even-numbered days.
