News from Congressman George Radanovich

Posted by: Maven on May 24, 2009 at 10:41 am

From Sierra Star:

Congressman George Radanovich (R-Mariposa) released the following statement after Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar announced $260 million will go to California water projects — none of which is slated to help alleviate the regulatory drought in the San Joaquin Valley.

“Unfortunately, the news from the Department of the Interior does nothing to immediately help San Joaquin Valley agriculture and the people who depend on agriculture for their livelihood.

“It’s outrageous that after a trip to California to see the devastating impact of this regulatory drought that Secretary Salazar did not dedicate resources to projects such as the ‘Two Gates’ plan, which would temporarily allow the pumps to operate and help save 40,000 jobs in the San Joaquin Valley.

“(The) announcement was a slap in the face to all those who are going hungry and homeless at the hands of a dying fish. Farmers and farm workers who are being held hostage by draconian environmental laws are begging for their government to help alleviate the suffering and their government is ignoring their cries for help.”
