Rain, thunderstorms, and snow …? yes, snow in the forecast!

Posted by: Maven on June 3, 2009 at 8:02 am

What? Snow in June? Quite possibly, says meteorologist Ken Clarke from Accu-Weather’s Western Weather Blog who fills us in on this unusual storm hanging out in the Pacific Ocean:

It can shower in just about every forecast period through Friday for central and northern California with increasing amount of thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening hours. By Thursday and Friday it will be cold enough aloft that thunderstorms could be locally heavy. There is even the chance for locally severe weather with hail and even an isolated tornado.

As for southern California. A shower cannot be ruled out on Thursday in spots, especially in areas north of Los Angeles. But chances grow to likely sometime Thursday night and Friday with a few thunderstorms possible on Friday as well. It is even entirely possible that thunderstorms on Friday in the south could be locally heavy, especially around the LA Basin area on east.

And I must talk about snow. Yeah, I know its June. But it will be cold enough aloft that snow will fall down to at least the 8,500-foot level in the Sierra Thursday night and Friday.
