It’s LA beach report card time…Is your beach polluted?

From The Examiner:

LA water quality does not bode well for beaches according to Heal the Bay’s Annual Beach Report Card (2008-2009) released in May. The environmental watch group determines the water quality grades (A-F) based on levels of bacterial pollution measured on a weekly (and sometimes daily) basis. There are four agencies within LA County that contribute to the monitoring information: the City of LA’s Environmental Monitoring Division at the Hyperion Sewage Treatment Plant, the LA County Department of Health Services, the LA County Sanitation Districts and the City of Long Beach.

Unfortunately, this year LA County’s results showed that the water quality was below the state-wide average this past year, and had the worst overall water quality in the state…AGAIN. The average for LA county beaches was brought down primarily because of only a few sincerely polluted beaches in Avalon (Catalina), Santa Monica, Malibu and Long Beach.
