An official ceremony May 20 marked the completion of the Rancho Bernardo Reservoir Rehabilitation project. Mayor Jerry Sanders and city officials gathered at the site on Big Springs Way to recognize completion of the 10 million gallon project, which now provides the community with drinking water.
Originally estimated to cost $6.7 million, the construction cost ended up at $8.7 million, financed chiefly by water funds. The project began in February to reverse deterioration of the facility and comply with seismic requirements.
“The reconstruction … was an important part of the city of San Diego’s long-range plan to invest in public works projects and to improve vital community facilities like the reservoir,” says Racquel Vasquez, spokeswoman for the city’s Engineering and Capital Projects Department.
